Evesham`s improved run of results continued with a well deserved victory against Sholing in the Evo-Stik Southern South & West Division. The win made it four matches without defeat for Paul Collicutt`s side who kept their 6th clean sheet in the last nine league games. Indeed, the last time United conceded a league goal at the Jubilee Stadium was in a 2-2 draw with North Leigh on 20th September.

As so often this season, the Robins were without a host of players through various reasons and the lack of numbers meant only four substitutes could be named on the team sheet. FA Vase holders Sholing who beat West Auckland Town in the 2013/14 final at Wembley Stadium, were first to threaten but the ever reliable Kevin Sawyer safely gathered from dangerman Jack Smith. Evesham though soon settled and went on to create the better chances in a goalless first half. Strikes by Ashley Edenborough and Adam Mann proved fruitless and then penalty shouts were waved aside when Mann took a tumble under Terry Cuthbertson`s challenge. In the closing stages Mann got ahead of his marker but directed Elliot Kennedy`s delivery over the crossbar from close range.

Kennedy`s pace continued to give the Boatmen problems in the second half and from another teasing cross the unmarked Edenborough was at full stretch but just failed to get a touch at the back post. Despite enjoying large chunks of possession, United couldn`t breakdown a packed Sholing defence and the longer the game went on it appeared that the visitors would return to Southampton with a hard earned point. That all changed, however, with just four minutes to go. Sean Wood`s goalbound drive struck the outstretched arm of Mike Byrne in the box and captain Matt Sysum sealed the win from 12 yards for his 5th goal of the season and third success from the penalty spot.
