Evesham United and high flying Swindon Supermarine played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Calor League Division One South & West. Swindon arrived at the Jubilee Stadium in second spot and looking to extend their unbeaten run to four games. Evesham, however, without several regulars were more than a match for the title hopefuls and unlucky not to claim a second home win of the season.

Evesham Academy player Nat Lewars made light work of the step up from the reserves, having a hand in the first goal and then scoring the second on an impressive debut. Play switched from end to end from the start with both sets of forwards looking dangerous on the break. Lewars was first to threaten bursting into the box before firing over and then the impressive John Bateman made a fine save at the other end to deny Marine`s leading scorer Ashley Edenborough. On 20 minutes, United defender Adam Millard up for a Mitch Botfield corner powered a header that looked destined to find the net only for Kent Kauppinen to produce a fine point-blank save to somehow keep the ball out. A period of pressure was rewarded with Evesham taking the lead on 32 minutes. A surging run into the box by Lewars ended with Jake Johns heading the ball into his own net. The lead lasted until first-half stoppage-time when Edenborough levelled for the visitors capitalising on poor defending from the home side.

The second-half was seventeen minutes old when Lewars claimed his first senior goal for the club with a powerful finish past Kauppinen into the far corner. Bateman kept United`s lead intact with brilliant flying saves from Edenborough and substitute Ben Whitehaed but was beaten for a second time when Edenborough bundled in Marine`s equaliser with six minutes to go. Carl Brown had an opportunity for United at the death but Kauppinen`s outstretched leg prevented the striker a last-gasp winner.
