Evesham United turned in their best performance of the season to beat Wimborne Town and make it three games unbeaten in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

Despite going behind early on, the Robins came roaring back to score three and record back-to-back home wins for the first time this season.

Manager Paul Collicutt kept the same starting 11 that drew 0-0 at Banbury United on bank holiday Monday and named Lewis Binns on the bench for the first time after recovering from ankle surgery in the summer. Playing possession football and giving little away at the back, United fully deserved their victory and in Nick Stanley had the game`s Man of the Match.

Evesham showed their intentions straight from the kick-off and after just three minutes the impressive Stanley rattled the Wimborne crossbar with keeper Jason Harvell soundly beaten.

Skipper Matt Sysum lifted a header just wide and the tricky George Washbourne drove too high before Harvell, who had an inspired match for Wimborne between the sticks, made superb full-length saves to push aside efforts from Stanley and Washbourne as United impressed in a frantic opening.

But with 18 minutes on the clock and against the run of play, Wimborne`s leading scorer Mark Gamble latched onto a through ball and comfortably beat the advancing Kevin Sawyer to hand the visitors an unexpected 1-0 lead.

Evesham put the early setback behind them and continued to play some attractive, fast-flowing football and were unlucky not to level when Magpies defender Ian Oliver headed off the line from Liam Harding.

After being camped in the Wimborne half, Evesham were finally rewarded with an equaliser on 31 minutes when Stanley found the net with a trademark drive from just outside the box giving Harvell no chance.

With half-time approaching, United took a deserved 2-1 lead thanks to neat skills by Forest Green loanee Louis McGrory, who created the opening for Sean Wood to sweep home beyond Harvell.

United remained high tempo in the second half and the game was effectively over when the Robins went 3-1 ahead on the hour thanks to Washbourne`s first-time strike after more good work from the hardworking Wood.

A host of chances continued to fall United’s way before the end but Harvell was up to the task, making a series of excellent saves as the Red and Whites capped a fine performance to comfortably take all  three points and rise to 8th in the league.
