Teenager James Bowen made an Evesham United debut to remember with two goals and an assist in the Robins 4-0 victory against play-off contenders North Leigh at the Jubilee Stadium on Tuesday night.

The 18-year-old who is on work experience with the impressive Adam Powell from League Two Cheltenham Town, came off the bench in the
first-half for the injured Marcus Jackson and took centre stage with a display of silky skills and clinical finishing. North Leigh were always a threat going forward and could have been ahead through a couple of Conor McDonagh strikes but it was Paul Collicutt`s side who made the breakthrough with 38 minutes on the clock. Powell delivered a free-kick from the right that found its way to Bowen at the back post and the youngster netted with a fine volley past Miller`s keeper Adam McHugh. Before the interval Mark Bell should have levelled for the visitors but dragged his shot wide after racing clear and United stopper Louie Barnfather made an excellent block to deny the dangerous McDonagh as the first-half drew to a close.

Evesham continued to play at a high tempo after half-time and went on to extend their lead on 66 minutes. Livewire Bowen collected the ball out wide before cutting in past several North Leigh defenders and unleashing an unstoppable drive beyond the helpless McHugh for 2-0. Bowen was then inches away from notching a hat-trick as United continued to dominate the game.

With the North Leigh defence all at sea, the hardworking Lance Smith was rewarded for his efforts by connecting onto Bowen`s throughball to make it 3-0 with a splendid first-time strike from just inside the box. The busy McHugh then dived full length to push Bowen`s superbly struck free-kick behind for a corner before the scoring was completed two minutes into stoppage-time. Smith accelerated down the left before providing a pin-point cross that substitute Elliot Kennedy hit confidently past McHugh for goal number four.

An excellent result for a bouyant Evesham side and sweet revenge for a 2-0 defeat at Eynsham Park earlier in the season. Next up for the Robins is Godalming Town at the Jubilee Stadium on Saturday 5th April (3-00pm).
