Linden Dovey`s first-half goal was enough to earn Evesham United a hard fought pre-season win at neighbours Pershore Town on Tuesday night. The striker who joined the Robins in the summer got on the end of Neil Barnfield`s inch perfect pass to slot past Town keeper Matt Oliver to earn Shaun Cunnington`s side their first warm-up win.

Evesham dominated the opening half but found Oliver in top form. Mitchell Botfield, Barnfield and the lively Carl Brown all forced the home stopper to make excellent saves.

Pershore`s best effort on goal arrived with the interval approaching, the experienced and former Evesham frontman Mark Owen got himself into a good position but United keeper John Bateman was up to the task diving full length to his right to turn the ball behind.

The second period was more even but became disjointed with numerous substitutions by both sides. Bateman safely gathered from Owen while Matt Sysum up for a United corner had his header cleared off the line and young substitute Nat Lewers was just off target late on with a drive that failed to test the impressive Oliver.

EVESHAM UNITED: Bateman, Jackson, Wilson, Millard, Sysum, Botfield, Brown, Barnfield, Palmer, Dovey, Tambling.
Subs: Lewers, Rodrigues, Holloway, Williams and McGee.

ATTENDANCE: 91
