Having exited the FA Cup, the Robins have rearranged a Southern League Division One South & West fixture at Yate Town, who defeated United at home a month ago. After last weekend’s positive 3-1 win against Wimborne, boss Collicutt says there were plenty of plus points to build on.

He saluted the team’s character after they had trailed, and also the firepower after hitting back with goals from Nick Stanley, Jamie Wood and George Washbourne.

“The lads gave a very good performance to get a win that has been threatening to come over the past few weeks,” said Collicutt. “We have been playing reasonably well but unfortunately only got a point at Banbury the previous week.

“On Saturday, the performance merited the victory. It was disappointing to concede with a bit of slack play but then the lads showed a lot of spirit to come back and get three goals.

“We haven’t scored as many goals as we would have liked so to go 1-0 down a lot starts to go through your mind. But we created chances, scored three and could have doubled that. It’s great for confidence.”

Yate claimed a 1-0 win at the Spier & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium on the opening day of the season so Collicutt knows Evesham will need to keep improving. A win, however, could push them into the play-offs.

“Yate beat us 1-0 at our place and we know we are going to have to play well as a team again to get any points,” said Collicutt. “But we’re good enough to do that.”

Injuries will again keep Jared Wilson (foot) and Ashley Williams (calf) on the sidelines but there’s good news about Lewis Binns.

The defender was on the bench last weekend for his first involvement since injuring his ankle last Christmas.

Collicutt suggested Binns, a Hartpury College student, could have a short stint elsewhere to get games under his belt to stake his claim for a regular return to the Robins’ XI.

“It’s great to have Lewis back involved,” said the manager. “He’s a great lad and it’s been tough for him to miss so much football.

“He just needs to get fitter and get himself back in the right frame of mind after being out for so long. We will make sure he is 100 per cent right to come back.”
