Two goals by striker Ashley Edenborough ensured Evesham United a safe passage into the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup courtesy of a convincing 3-1 victory over higher ranked Histon at the Jubilee Stadium on Wednesday night. United`s reward is a home tie with Southern League Division One Central side Chalfont St Peter on Saturday 11th October.

After holding the Stutes to a goalless draw in Cambridgeshire four days earlier, Evesham made no mistake in the replay to book their place in the next round. United were forced to make one change to their starting line-up, Will Wellon coming in for skipper Matt Sysum who was serving a one-match ban for accumulating five cautions this season.

Edenborough struck as early as the 9th minute to settle any nerves and give Paul Collicutt`s side a dream start. Histon keeper Enol Ordonez got in a good block to deny Lance Smith, only for the ball to sit-up nicely for Edenborough to head in off the underside of the crossbar. Histon couldn`t cope with the pace of George Washbourne and Elliot Kennedy down the flanks and both in quick succession went close to adding to the Robins lead.
HALF-TIME: Evesham United (1) Histon (0)

And it was Man of the Match Kennedy who did get on the scoresheet soon after half-time, when he cut-in from the right and had his shot deflected into the far corner and beyond Ordonez for 2-0. More good work by Kennedy ended with Washbourne lifting his shot over and then substitute Nathan Jackson blazed wide from distance after combining well with the light-footed Washbourne. Edenborough thumped a free-kick against the visitor`s woodwork before Histon enjoyed their best spell and pulled a goal back through Nick Freeman with fourteen minutes to go.

Any hopes Histon had, however, of salvaging something from the game disappeared six minutes from time when Edenborough was brought down in the box by Duran Reynolds and got up to easily beat Ordonez from 12 yards to make it 3-1 to United. The last action saw Robin`s keeper Kevin Sawyer, whose handling throughout the game was perfection, superby touch over Eugene Libertucci`s drive before Evesham comfortably saw out time for another impressive display following on from the previous rounds victory at Redditch United.
