Evesham remain in third spot and just one point short of a definite place in the play-offs, with Wantage Town at home on Easter Monday, after this hard fought victory against sixth-placed Cinderford Town.

The home side took the lead in the fifth minute when Lee Smith scored with a shot from just inside the box, with Evesham making the better start overall. Cinderford improved and played the better football but did not have anything to show for it.  However, they equalised in the second minute after the break when former Evesham player Ethan Moore lobbed Kevin Sawyer.  The visitors looked more likely to score and they nearly did when an effort was headed off the line by Liam Harding.  The hosts then had a period of sustained pressure for ten minutes culminating in substitute Lance Smith scoring from close range in the 85th minute.

The game was played in front of 430 spectators, the second largest attendance for a League game at the Jubilee Stadium ever.

So that is 1 defeat in 24 games, of which we are now 11 unbeaten.  Also our defence must take a lot of credit.  Of the 12 divisions that make up steps 1 to 4 in non-league football only Poole Town have conceded less goals than Evesham United, a great effort.

EVESHAM UNITED:
Sawyer, Harding, Stanley, Brown, Slack, Dovey, Washbourne (Lance Smith 61), Wilson (Jackson 44), Edenborough, Mann, Lee Smith.
SUB NOT USED: Wellon, Binns

Attendance: 430
