At the home Boxing Day clash with third-placed neighbours Stratford Town, Evesham continued their superb form with a seventh consecutive victory in the League.

The game was played in poor conditions with driving rain and then sleet in the second half.  A hardy crowd of 381 turned up which was the biggest League  crowd since the move to the Jubilee Stadium in July 2012.  With better weather it may have reached 450 to 500.

Evesham dominated proceedings in the first half and could easily have scored two goals early on through Lance Smith and Matt Sysum who contrived to miss an open goal from close range.  The home side’s dominance was rewarded on the quarter hour when an Adam Mann cross was turned in well by Carl Brown at the far post for his first goal of the season.

Mann, who was Man of the Match, latched onto Smith’s flick-on before outpacing Callum Burgess and rifling a shot past the Stratford keeper at the near post in the 35th minute.

In the second half with conditions worse Stratford gave themselves hope in the 75th minute when Fagan rolled the ball into the net past backtracking defenders to set up an exciting finish.

Evesham managed to hold on and cement their place in fifth place and now must be genuine play-off contenders.  It was also a League double over the visitors.
