Evesham went nap today with an excellent performance in difficult conditions at the Jubilee Stadium. With only three games completed in Southern League Division 1 South & West it was an opportunity to make up ground on the play-off contenders.
Played on a heavy but playable surface and in driving rain in the second half, Evesham managed five goals against visitors Bridgwater Town.
Evesham started the better and took the lead in the 13th minute when a Nick Stanley through ball was slotted home by Lance Smith. On 26 minutes, Evesham had a goal disallowed when a Nathan Modest low cross was turned in by Lance Smith, but he was adjudged offside.
Bridgwater missed their best chance of the match in the 37th minute when Reeko Best found himself in a one-on-one situation with Kevin Sawyer, but the keeper saved well.
Just three minutes into the second half, Evesham doubled their lead when Adam Mann set up Smith who ran through to score.
In the 55th minute Smith completed his hat-trick by tapping home a curling free-kick from Stanley that hit the post.
Midway through the half a low driven cross by Lewis Binns was turned in by Mann to make it 4-0.
The perfect day for Smith was completed in the 85th minute when after a determined run and some poor defending he was left with the task of putting the ball into an empty net from 20 yards and score his fourth of the afternoon.
The win leaves Evesham in eighth place but now are on a run of one defeat in eleven games.
